A new candidate has entered the race for the Clarke County School District (CCSD) Board of Education (BOE) in District 3.

Athens insurance professional Carl Blount has announced his candidacy for the Clarke County School District Board of Education in District 3.

District 3 stretches from Hawthorne Avenue to Wilkerson Street, and includes Clarke Central High School and Classic City High.

Blount and his wife, Elizabeth, have lived in Athens for over two decades. Their sons, Ashton and Thomas, have gone through the Athens Clarke-County school system.

Blount’s campaign will center on raising literacy and math achievement in early grades, providing support for students who fall through the cracks, and rebuilding trust between the Board and District leadership.

The election for the BOE will take place on May 19, 2026. The current representative for District 3 is Linda Davis.
