A former UGA football player was sentenced this week after being found guilty of the murder of a RaceTrac employee.

Akhil Crumpton, an ex-UGA football player, was convicted of murder on Wednesday by a jury in the Oconee County Superior Court.

Crumpton fatally shot Elijah Wood in 2021. Wood was working his shift at a RaceTrac gas station in Watkinsville at the time. Crumpton was later arrested for another shooting in Philadelphia with the same firearm.

Crumpton was convicted in 2024 in a federal case related to Wood’s death and sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

On Wednesday, Crumpton was found guilty of all six charges by the state superior court, including felony murder and possession of a firearm.

Yesterday, Crumpton was sentenced to life without parole, plus five years in prison.
