The trial of the man accused of murdering University of Georgia law student Tara Baker was put on pause Thursday after the wife of defense attorney Ahmad Crews was reportedly hospitalized.
The prosecution rested its case Wednesday, concluding after a full day of testimony from one Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent and two GBI DNA analysts.
The analysts reviewed the types of DNA found on Baker’s body and discussed how rare it would be for there to be a false match of the DNA that was found with Edrick Faust, the man accused of killing the then 23-year-old Baker.
The defense asked for a directed verdict, a ruling by the judge that excludes the jury, on all but two of the charges. The judge denied that request.
Before the court announced proceedings were to be cancelled for the day, the trial was scheduled to resume Thursday at noon. The court awaits a decision from the defendant on whether he will testify on his own behalf.
