Almost two years after 22-year-old nursing student, Laken Riley, was murdered while on a run, a race and memorial service will be held to honor her life.
The Laken Hope Foundation is organizing the “Run for Your Life” 5K and memorial Saturday in order to bring Athens together both in movement and in prayer.
The race will start at 8 a.m., and the service will follow at 10 a.m. in Tate Plaza with an introduction from Riley’s family.
U.S. House Representative Mike Collins will hold a Q&A during the event. After Riley’s death, Collins sponsored a bill signed into law last year called the Laken Riley Act.
Then, Pastor Derek Anglin will give the sermon, “Run for Your Life,” which the event is named after. The memorial will close with an hour of worship.
Almost all proceeds from the race will go to the Laken Hope Foundation.
