The State Senate has passed an amended fiscal year 2026 budget, with reductions to some of the governor’s planned funds for employees.

Under Governor Brian Kemp’s plan, state employees and teachers would receive a $2,000 one-time salary boost. The senate’s version reduced that amount to $1,250. They did keep in place the $250 refund for single taxpayers and $500 amount for married couples.

Additional cuts include a $200 million reduction from $325 million planned for the DREAMS scholarship endowment for low-income students to attend college and $40 million from Kemp’s recommended $50 million slated to address homelessness.

Now, the House and Senate must reconcile differences in the two versions before the measure heads to the governor’s desk.
