Clarke Teacher of the Year named a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year

State School Superintendent Richard Woods surprises CCSD's 2025-26 Teacher of the Year, Timothy Pritchett, with his nomination as a finalist for the Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Timothy Pritchett, the Clarke County School District’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year, is in the running to become the 2026-27 Georgia Teacher of the Year. The Barnett Shoals Elementary School third-grade teacher was named a finalist by the Georgia Department of Education.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods surprised Pritchett with the announcement during class on Thursday, March 19. He would be the first Clarke County teacher to win the award in its more than 50-year history.

The 10 state finalists will be honored at a reception in May, where the winner will be announced.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
