Cedar Shoals High School will have a dedication ceremony held in honor of the late James Holston.

James Holston (1935-2017) was Cedar Shoals High School's first baseball coach and a member of the school science department faculty. Cedar Shoals will have a dedication ceremony in his honor on Wednesday, April 1st, at 5 p.m., prior to the Jaguars’ home baseball game.

Holston spent 34 years in Clarke County high schools as a teacher and coach. He worked at Cedar Shoals High School from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. Holston was also inducted into the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 and was an inaugural member of the Cedar Shoals Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Clarke County Board of Education approved the renaming of the baseball field in 2025, following a public effort led by Rev. Lamar Sandoval and Anthony Pittman, who worked closely with James Holston. They expressed to the board the impact that the late James Holston had on the community.
