A group of people dressed up in a frog costume led a short march at Bishop Park in Athens on Saturday.

Thousands of people attended several No Kings protests held around Athens on Saturday, according to IndivisibleGA10, which organized the events. In addition, several hundred protesters met at Bishop Park in Athens on Saturday afternoon for a short march and to hear from Democratic Party organizers.

Many protesters said they wanted to oppose actions by the federal government and spend time in community.
Nicholas Bowdler stood at the entrance of the park with a sign and said he came out to show his opposition to what he views as the decline of democracy.

“It’s the responsibility of all of us to make sure that tyranny doesn’t overtake us,” he said.

Bowdler said while this was his first No Kings protest, he’d been feeling frustrated with the Trump administration for a while.

Another first-time protester was Rebecca Cochran, who attended with her husband and children. She said her family wanted to show support for immigrants in the U.S.
“My husband grew up out of the country, so we greatly value our immigrants and hate to see how they’re treated,” she said.

After the march, protesters filed into a covered area to hear from Democratic Party organizers.
