A school social worker in the Clarke County School District was awarded at the state level for her impact on students and families in the community.

Angela Gay, school social worker for Howard B. Stroud Elementary and Cedar Shoals High School, was awarded the School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social Workers Association of Georgia. This award recognizes school social workers for their dedication and impact on their school community.

Gay is an Athens native who graduated from Cedar Shoals High School and the University of Georgia. She has been serving Clarke County School District students and families since 2001. She began her career in the district as a family service coordinator for the CCSD Pre-K Program.

Gay’s impact extends beyond the school; she’s involved in the Boys and Girls Clubs of Athens, the Athens Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the YWCO, and more. When Gay received the award, she said she felt honored to be recognized as the Georgia School Social Worker of the Year and proud to represent the district.
