Close to $3.5 million is set to be invested into expanding the community center at Howard Park thanks to Senator Ossoff.

Athens-Clarke County’s Howard Park will be receiving nearly $3.5 million in upgrades. The six-acre park currently includes a pool, splash pad, and other amenities for recreational use.

Through the efforts of Senator Jon Ossoff, Republicans and Democrats came together to deliver the federal funding to expand the park’s community center.

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz says that the incoming expansion will allow for more programming geared towards young people who live in the neighborhood.

Bob Cowell, Athens-Clarke’s County Manager, said that the funding will result in long-lasting benefits for the surrounding community.
