The Athens-Clarke County Commission will adopt the upcoming fiscal year’s budget on June 9th. The county’s mayor Kelly Girtz submitted a proposed budget to the commission on May 1st.

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz submitted a budget to the Commission for review on Friday. The General Fund Budget totals $212.5 million for Operating and Capital Expenses, over $10 million more than last year’s budget.

In the twenty-minute address, Mayor Girtz emphasized the county’s expected population growth in the coming decades.

Close to $3.5 million is set to be invested into expanding the community center at Howard Park thanks to Senator Ossoff.

Representative Frye asked Governor Kemp to stand up to the administration and get the funds restored saying small businesses across the state are at risk because the funds were frozen.
