The University of Georgia Live Insect Zoo has reopened to the public after moving into a permanent new home on campus. Operated by the university’s Department of Entomology within the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the zoo features more than 30 species of insects and arachnids for visitors to observe and learn about.

Originally launched in 2012 in a small storage room, the attraction reopened April 15 in Cedar Street Building B on UGA’s main campus. The expanded space was developed through the efforts of academic professional Kelly Carruthers and doctoral student Malcolm Peavy.

Exhibits include scorpions, tarantulas, hissing cockroaches, and leaf insects. University officials say the zoo supports hands-on learning for students while also helping educate the public about insects and reduce common fears.

Summer visitors can reserve tours online, and the zoo also offers mobile programs for schools and community events.
