Wednesday evening, the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission are set to discuss the construction of a new Judicial Center.

The selected site for the project is 120 W. Dougherty Street. The Commission is required to approve the site and the creation of the Urban Redevelopment Agency, which will oversee financing structures to allow for the completion of the project.

Construction is expected to cost over $200 million. Some of the funding will come from the SPLOST 2020 project budget, which voters approved in 2019.

Athens-Clarke County residents have the opportunity to comment on the Judicial Center and the budget for the upcoming fiscal year at the Mayor and Commission Agenda Setting Session and Taxpayer Bill of Rights Hearing.

The meeting will be held May 20, 2026, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
