Athens-based St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary Upscale Thrift Store has surpassed $3 million in total sales as it celebrates its 19th anniversary, hospital officials announced this week.
The thrift store, located on West Broad Street, opened in 2008 after members of the St. Mary’s Auxiliary identified a need for a high-end resale shop in the area. Since then, volunteers have operated the store, handling everything from collecting and sorting donations to pricing and selling merchandise.
According to St. Mary’s, the store has generated approximately $1.5 million in net proceeds to support hospital services and patient care after expenses. Hospital leaders said the funds have helped purchase equipment, improve access to care and offset costs for uninsured and underinsured patients.
The store marked the milestone during a May 8 celebration honoring volunteers. St. Mary’s officials said the organization is continuing to seek volunteers and donations from the community.
