New ACC Animal Services Director appointed

Thomas "Tony" Adair

Tony Adair has been appointed to serve as the new Athens-Clarke County Animal Services Department Director.

Adair has over 25 years of experience directing animal control and shelter operations. Bob Cowell, the Athens-Clarke County Manager, made the appointment.

Adair has served as the Director of Animal Services in counties in North Carolina and Florida. He previously directed operations at the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, one of the largest nonprofit animal welfare organizations in the United States.

Adair has also provided private consulting services related to animal cruelty investigations and animal services management for over 14 years. He received a Shelter Management Certification from the University of the Pacific.

Adair will begin serving as the Animal Services Department Director on June 15.

Maura Potvin is a senior journalism major at the University of Georgia. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree in Emerging Media from UGA and hopes to work in the news industry and continue to share her passion for storytelling.
