ACC Gov announces $2.7 million for affordable housing projects, calls for proposals

Nicole Jordan

The Athens-Clarke County government will dole out nearly $3 million in funding for affordable housing projects this fall.

The local government is asking nonprofit and private developers to apply for some or all of the money by July 24th. Projects can include public infrastructure that supports affordable development like roads, sidewalks, and sewer lines. The money is available through the county’s 2020 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program, a special sales tax dedicated to capital projects.

Proposals can be submitted online and in person, with more information available at accgov.com.

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission must approve the use of the SPLOST affordable housing funding, which is tentatively expected in early October.
