Georgia saw record-breaking numbers in employment and the state’s labor force during the month of June. According to numbers released from the Georgia Labor Department, employment rose to more than 5,294,000, up more than 10,000 for the month and more than 65,000 for the year.
The sectors with the most gains over the month include private educational services, administrative and support services, and retail trade.
Areas with the most job gains over the past year were health care and social assistance, private educational services, accommodation and food services, and local government.
The unemployment rate held steady at 3.4%, 0.8 percentage points below the national rate. Additionally, the labor force hit an all-time high of more than 5,477,000.
State Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes said, “Georgia’s labor force and employment have reached new all-time highs for the sixth month in a row, proving the strength of a modern, adaptable workforce ready to grow, compete, and lead.”
Over the year, the state saw job decreases in federal government transportation, warehousing, and utilities.
