Athens residents will have the chance to hear the latest progress regarding the Georgia Square Mall redevelopment. District 6 Commissioner Stephanie Johnson is holding a Town Hall Thursday evening. Jonson says the question-and-answer session will allow her constituents and others to hear directly from those involved in the project.

“One of the lead developers is going to be speaking and answering questions directly from citizens,” Johnson said. “One of the engineers that’s helping with the planning and the zoning, and also, an individual the planning director of Athens-Clarke County will also be there.”

The commissioner says that it is important for her to be able to provide information to the community as it becomes available.

“I have always promoted transparency and education and communication, and I’ve not be able to provide an update about the mall since last year. So, it’s been a really long time and when I tell you on a weekly basis, if I identify myself as the commissioner of District 6 and someone asks, the first question-what’s happening with the mall?’ There’s been a lot of work that’s taken place behind the scenes.”

The town hall takes place at the mall at 6 pm, doors open at 5:30. Johnson plans to hold additional town hall meetings regarding that redevelopment.
