Fentanyl trafficking operation busted in Athens

July 29, 2026 - $74,000 in U.S currency, four firearms, four vehicles, and a trafficking quantity of fentanyl were seized in an investigation that led to the arrest of 56-year-old Darren Turner of Athens.

56 year old Darren Turner of Athens was arrested July 29th in connection to fentanyl trafficking.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department, in partnership with the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force, have concluded an investigation into a fentanyl trafficking operation running in Athens.

After multiple traffic stops and the execution of three search warrants investigators arrested Turner. They seized $74,000 in U.S currency, four firearms, four vehicles, and a trafficking quantity of fentanyl.

Turner has been charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person-convicted felon.
