Clarke County voters will decide Nov. 3 on two local sales tax measures affecting schools and local government.
The first asks voters to renew the district's 1% Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for another five years. If approved, the measure would generate up to $215 million to fund school construction, renovations, technology upgrades, security improvements, school buses, facility maintenance and other capital projects across the Clarke County School District. The referendum also authorizes up to $75 million in general obligation bonds to help finance those projects.
Voters will also consider a separate 1% Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST), which would be in effect for five years. Revenue from the tax would be used exclusively to reduce property taxes levied by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, the City of Winterville and the Town of Bogart.
The voter registration deadline is Oct. 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.
