Athens-Clarke County firefighters, National EMS, and a specialized surgical team from Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital worked for nearly two hours to free a construction worker from heavy machinery Friday morning.
According to a post on the ACC Fire Department’s Facebook page, around 6:45 a.m. on Friday, crews responded to the scene of a serious accident on the Athens Bypass near Atlanta Highway. A crew was pouring concrete when the worker fell into an aggregate placer machine, a piece of heavy machinery used in road building and paving, and became entangled in the auger.
A medical team consisting of surgeons, an anesthesiologist, and nurses from Piedmont assisted crews with the extrication. No additional details about the worker’s condition have been released at this time.
