The Apalachee High School football team will play its remaining three games with an acting head coach.

Charles Kenyon resigned Wednesday following an investigation into reports of racially offensive language, the Barrow County School District said.

An email sent to families of Apalachee football players said: “Any inappropriate or unprofessional statement or behavior, even if intended or represented as a ‘joke,’ will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.”

It’s unclear if the allegations were directed at or around the football players.

This was Kenyon’s first season as head coach after being promoted from defensive coordinator in the offseason.

Alex Savakinas will serve as acting head coach for the final three games of the 2026 regular season.

Kenyon was the third coach at Apalachee in three years. Kevin Saunders was the head coach for the 2025 season, where he coached the Wildcats to their first win since 2021 and ended a 29-game losing streak.

Saunders took over for Mike Hancock who resigned while citing anxiety, grief and depression following the 2024 Apalachee school shooting.

The Wildcats host Mountain View Friday night. They are 1-6.
