Shine On: Remembering 30 Years of Once in a Blue Moon

Over the course of the last 30 years WUGA Radio presented a live variety show that showcased the talents of various performers from the local community. Titled "Once in a Blue Moon", the name suggested the infrequency of the event, with most shows occurring around the stations anniversaries, every 5 to 10 years. However, the success of the show and the talent displayed meant audiences began to clamor for  it to be more often. Recently the station celebrated 30 years on the air which seemed the perfect opportunity to turn back the clock and dive into the archives for a listen back to some of the highlights over the years! So grab a seat and enjoy, Shine On - Remembering Once in a Blue Moon.

Chris Shupe was the Program Director of WUGA from 2014-2022. Shupe may be best known as The Athens King, a tribute to Elvis Presley, which often included an 8 piece show band! After two years as a part-time announcer, Chris Shupe joined WUGA full time as the station’s Morning Edition Host and Assistant Operations Director. He was later promoted to PD in 2014.
