ACC seeks members for two new citizen boards

The Athens Clarke County government is seeking applicants to serve on two newly created boards. The Human Relations Commission and the Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board were created late last year to serve as a conduit between ACC residents and local lawmakers.

The Human Relations Commission was one of several diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives passed by local lawmakers last year, along with a sweeping anti-discrimination ordinance. Members of the Human Relations Commission are expected to work with the public to help them file discrimination complaints under the new law.

The Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board was also created by commissioners last year, after several months in committee. It will review complaints of misconduct against law enforcement officers and make policy recommendations to the Mayor and Commission, although it does not have the power to make changes directly.

Applicants for both boards may apply online at ACCgov.com now through January 19.
