Athens Library Commemorating 9/11

Athens Regional Library

The Athens Regional Library is commemorating the 20th anniversary of September 11th. Rhiannon Eades, Public Information Officer at the facility says it’s important for the library to provide the remembrance for community members.

“September 11th changed our nation, it changed the world and it’s been 20 years” Eades said. “It’s a milestone anniversary and we wanted to commemorate that and provide the opportunity for community residents to learn about it and to reflect upon it. We thought it was an important thing for to do for our community.”

Eades says the week-long observances include opportunities for library patrons and visitors to participate in the memorial titled: 9/11: Twenty Years After.

“Anybody who comes into the library can create what we’re calling unity flags. Library visitors can share their memories and thoughts, we’re recording those on film and we’re going to be compiling that into a video to share later, and finally we’re showing a documentary on Saturday the 11th at 3.”

Visit athenslibrary.org/remembering-9-11, for a list of events and times. While all events are free and open to the public, face masks are required inside the library and social distancing measures are in place.
