At the height of Athens' Band Neutral Milk Hotel’s popularity, band leader Jeff Mangum stopped playing shows and releasing new music leaving fans puzzled.

A new book by journalist Adam Clair looks for answers to Mangum’s sudden departure. Along the way, he explores the innerworkings of the artist collective from which Neutral Milk Hotel emerged the Elephant 6 recording company.
