Auditor Video: Performance Plan Issues

Athens Clarke County Auditor Stephanie Maddox says she was placed on a performance improvement plan for her upcoming term.

Yesterday, newly-reappointed auditor Stephanie Maddox announced that she was put on--what she called--a 'disciplinary action plan' that goes into effect upon her contract renewal.

In the video announcement released by the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, Maddox said the goals listed in the performance improvement plan are "not accomplishable" within the time frame.

"This year there are several changes, but the most disturbing change is that there is an identity clause that's added to the contract, and it basically says that if I resign or if I'm terminated I can't collect severance if I decide to sue."

Maddox said she believes this is due to her formal complaint with the equal employment opportunity commission, where she accused Mayor Kelly Girtz and Manager Blaine Williams of discriminatory conduct.

The full video can be found on the Athens Anti Discrimination Movement's YouTube channel. An internal investigation following Maddox's accusations about the Clarke County government is expected to be completed later this month.
