COVID Climbs in Athens-Clarke

COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Athens-Clarke County.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 36 new COVID cases in Clarke County yesterday. This number is tied with Wednesday, the 28th, for the highest number of new cases since early March. The PCR test positivity rate for the past two weeks in Athens increased to 10.3%, showing steady growth in cases since last month.

Surrounding counties are seeing similar surges. Madison County's 2-week PCR testing positivity rate is 14.1% and Jackson County is at 14.8%.

As a whole, Georgia has seen nearly 930,000 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic. and 2,966 Georgians have died.

Meanwhile, as cases continue to rise statewide, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has been critical of the Biden Administration for not doing enough to get the COVID-19 vaccines permanently authorized by the Food and Drug Administration.  Jeff Dantre reports:
