COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the Athens area. 550 cases were reported in Athens Clarke County for the last two weeks, while neighboring Jackson County had 555 cases reported, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Hospitalizations are also rising. Nearly 25% of hospital patients in Athens’ region, Region E, are classified as COVID-19 patients, 100% of ICU beds are occupied, and nearly 63% of ventilators are in use.
The state of Georgia has reported 50,778 cases of COVID-19 over the past two weeks and nearly 26% of all hospital patients are currently COVID-19 patients.
