Covid Update for Monday, September 13, 2021

Local hospitals are still showing signs of strain from the latest COVID-19 surge.

St. Mary’s and Piedmont Athens Regional’s emergency departments are listed as overcrowded by the Georgia Coordinating Center. Both hospitals' intensive care units are unable to accept incoming ambulance traffic as of this morning.  Piedmont Athens Regional is also in medical diversion.

In Region E, the region which both Athens hospitals are located within, ICU beds are at 97% capacity and inpatient beds are at 89% capacity.

COVID patients make up 41% of all hospital patients in the region. Athens Clarke County reported 36 COVID-19 cases today, Jackson County reported 27, and Oconee County reported 10, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
