Athens-based Java Joy took part in the Georgia Chamber’s Annual Eggs and Issues breakfast this morning. The so-called Joyristas served coffee and hugs at the event.
The Athens nonprofit is a mobile coffee cart service operated by adults with disabilities. Java Joy’s mission focuses on the untapped abilities of that population. The Athens nonprofit is planning to expand to other cities in Georgia this year.
“What started with a team of five Joyristas serving coffee in Athens to our corporate supporters has turned into contagious joy spreading throughout the country,” said Laura Whitaker, Java Joy Co-Founder and Executive Director of Java Joy parent organization, Extra Special People.
The visit brought awareness of the meaningful employment opportunities Java Joy offers to individuals with disabilities.
In December Java Joy launched in San Francisco and the organization plans to expand to Atlanta this spring.
