ESP Nearing Home Stretch for Fundraising

ESP

Extra Special People is close to reaching its goal for funding a Miracle League Complex. ESP is in the home stretch in the effort to provide the facility for children with specials. Laura Whitaker is the organization’s executive director.

“The 450 kids with disabilities that we serve here at ESP will have the opportunity to play baseball which we are really excited about,” Whitaker said. “Our goal was $1.4 million to build this complex and we have raised 1.2 [million] so far and we’re really, really excited to close that gap.”

ESP launched the fundraising effort last August. One of the events planned to support the project gets underway this weekend. Supporters can still donate or sign up to jump.

“The Big Jump fundraiser, which is an annual fundraiser that we have, where we have about 60 individuals who have courageously signed up to jump out of an airplane and send kids to camp.”

She says those taking that that jump must first reach an individual fundraising goal.

“So the cool thing about this is yes, we have people jumping out of airplanes, but what’s even more significant is that they’ve raised $600 dollars or more to jump out of that airplane and that goes directly to cover the cost of the kids that come to camp.”

It’s 9 am until 3 pm at Skydive Monroe. The day will also include a family festival.

So far, 400 children have signed up for camp, many who are not able to pay.
