The composer Franz Liszt was a rock star before there were rock stars. By the age of 11, he was already writing music and playing concerts for the public. He toured Europe as a pianist for 8 years starting in 1839, and fans reacted to his performances with what was called “Lisztomania.”

Art has the power to inspire, and it can help us better understand the world around us, but we don’t always think of museums as teaching institutions.

Since the 1970s, the Friends of the Museum have raised money to support its mission and spread the word about its exhibitions and programs, but the organization has changed over the years.
