African Perspectives for January 9, 2022

Our first episode in the New Year, 2022 is a show of hope and optimism. We offer our traditional first show of the year special to welcome our listeners into what we hope will be a year of peace, tolerance and the end of the coronavirus epidemic. In addition to the celebrations of a new calendar year, we also remind our listeners that in dire situations such as the ongoing pandemic, the opposite of hope is not hopelessness but rather fear, to which we must never give in. Even as we optimistically predict the end of the pandemic in the new year, we depart the first episode in 2022 with the positive spirit of everything working out, ultimately in the New Year. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selected tunes from the album Wakafrika (1994) by the legend, Manu Dibango, as well as the collection, Africa Fete 3 (1995).
