African Perspectives for April 17, 2022

The third episode in April is the third instalment of the six-week African music odyssey on the show. Falling on Easter Sunday, the episode is also the Easter special on the show. The episode focuses on the various religious observations and festivals in the month of April. These include not only the Christian Eastertide season, but also the month of Ramadan for Muslims and the Passover for our Jewish listeners. The episode also discusses Religion in Africa and how it is multifaceted with major influence on art, culture and philosophy on the continent, especially among the adherents of the three Abrahamic religions of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In honor of religious festivals and observations in April, the episode features the African Mass, Missa Luba, the intersection of African folk singing and Christian catholic worship by the Muugano National choir of Kenya. As always, the episode, the African music odyssey #3 featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selected tunes from two popular African reggae artistes, Alpha Blondy and Majek Fashek.
