African Perspectives for May 8, 2022

The second episode in May is the sixth and final instalment of the six-week African music odyssey on the show. Falling on the second Sunday in May, the episode is also the Mother’s Day special on the show. As the six-week African music odyssey spring special comes to an end in May, as promised, the episode provides a special focus on the wonderful celebration of all mothers, particularly the mothers on the African continent. The episode points out the idea that if we think about the self-sacrifice of motherhood, every day should be Mother’s Day. The episode also features a poem, “Mama Akin” by the host, Akinloye Ojo to celebrate all the mothers of the world, both living and dearly departed. As always, the episode, the final African music odyssey #6 featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including tunes selected to enhance the Mother’s Day celebration by being music either performed by African mothers or are about mothers, particularly mothers on the African continent including songs by Janelia, Comfort Annor, Oumou Sangare, and Prince Nico Mbanga.
