African Perspectives for June 19, 2022

The third episode in June is our annual Father’s Day special celebrating the fathers and father figures in our listening area. The episode pauses our ongoing focus on the 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship Leadership in Civic Engagement Institute ongoing at the University of Georgia. The overarching goal of the UGA leadership Institute is to engage Fellows with the people, institutions, and civic leadership strategies that have shaped U.S. civil society so that they can adapt best practices and lead change in their own communities. In addition to celebrating all the fathers, uncles, brothers and other father figures, this episode shares information on the twenty African nations represented in the institute and the number of fellows representing each of these African nations. It also discusses the sectors and project interests represented by the Fellows. The episode prepares our listeners for the first of six rounds of in-studio interviews with a pair of fellows from the twenty-five UGA Mandela Washington fellows on next week’s show. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including tracks from the album Rokoto Frenzy by Abdul Tee Jay and selections from the series Africa Fete.
