2022 Mandela Washington Fellows, Tikulirekuti Banda (Zambia), and Louise Kanza (DRC) with host, Akinloye

The first episode in the month of July is also the American Independence Day celebration special. The episode is a happy fourth of July dedication to all of our listeners as we all celebrate American Independence and the 246th birthday to the U.S.A, the land of the free and the home of the brave. It also features the second round of interviews with visiting Mandela Washington Fellows as part of continuing focus on the 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship Leadership in Civic Engagement Institute ongoing at UGA through July 17, 2022. The Mandela Washington Fellows, who are between the ages of 25 and 35, have established records of accomplishment in promoting innovation and positive impact in their organizations, institutions, communities, and countries. This episode continues the friendly take-over of the show by the visiting Fellows as the next five or so shows will feature conversations with half of the twenty-five fellows in weekly pairs. The episode features conversations with the second pair of fellows from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Zambia. The two guests are Louise Kanza from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) whose project interests include social entrepreneurship and innovation, promoting women’s rights, and diversity and inclusion, and Tikulirekuti Banda from the Republic of Zambia whose project interests include sexual and reproductive health service provision among adolescents living with disability, infectious disease research/programs, and civic engagement and advocacy. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including tracks from DRC’s Bopol Mansiamina popularly known as Don Paolo with Samba Samba, and Zambia’s Pompi with Samala featuring Suffix.
