This fourth episode in October is the third of four planned shows throughout the month to feature conversations with the 2022-2023 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) in the UGA African Studies Institute. The program sponsored by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is designed to develop Americans’ knowledge of foreign cultures and languages. The episode features the troubling update about the breakdown in Ethiopian peace talks in South Africa and the threat of the crisis escalating as parties in the crisis mostly boycotted the UN sponsored ceasefire talks. The episode also provides update on the situation in Sudan where most of the opposition have rejected settlement moves with the country’s leaders. The episode rounds up with the third conversation in the FLTA series with the 2022-2023 Swahili Language FLTA, Mr. Nichesius Godwini. As always, the episode features selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including wonderful selections from two collections in the Rough Guide to series: The Music of Kenya and Tanzania, and The Music of Africa.
