African Perspectives for October 30, 2022

This fifth episode in October is the final of four planned shows throughout the month to feature conversations with the 2022-2023 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) in the UGA African Studies Institute. The program sponsored by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is designed to develop Americans’ knowledge of foreign cultures and languages. The episode provides the report of the popular uprising by the people of Chad against the postponement of elections and extension of military rule. The episode also features well-wishes to the three African teams participating in the 7th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, currently taking place in India: the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco; the Flamingoes of Nigeria, and the Serengeti Girls of Tanzania. The episode rounds up with the final conversation in the FLTA series with the 2022-2023 Hausa Language FLTA, Ms. Charity Fawe. As always, the episode features selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including wonderful selections from two outstanding collections; African Lullaby from Ellipsis Arts, and the Rough Guide to African Street Party from World Music Network.
