This third episode in December is the holiday special and the final show for both the month and the year. It celebrates the end of another calendar year on our show of our coming together to consider some selected but inspiring aspects of life on the African continent. The holiday special episode shares insights on the common dishes, gifts and other traditions for Christmas celebration in parts of Africa, and Kwanzaa, the first explicitly African-American and Pan-African holiday created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1965. The episode features the contents, purpose, and mode of celebration of the holiday including the seven Nguzu Saba principles of Kwanzaa that comprises tradition and reason, including Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (Collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (Faith), The episode also features the soundtracks of various performances by the African Children's Choir, incepted in 1984 by Ray Barnett comprising children ages 7 to 12, from different African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selected tracks by the African Children’s Choir from two of their albums, It takes a whole village and Still walking in the light.
