Should Georgians be worried about Cyclospora?
Many Americans have spent this summer afraid of eating fresh produce, especially lettuce, thanks to an outbreak of a parasite called Cyclospora. But here in Georgia, Cyclospora still doesn’t pose much of a threat. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Dr. Francisco Diez, Director of the UGA Center for Food Safety, and a professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology, to discuss the parasite.

Local Emergency Planning Committee kicks off this month
For the first time since 2019, Athens is going to have a Local Emergency Planning Committee. To learn what an LEPC is and why we need one, WUGA’s Havivah Saltz spoke with Athens-Clarke County Emergency Planning Director Meredith Barnum.
The Local Emergency Planning Committee will hold its first meeting on August 20th from 3 to 4 p.m. at 120 Doughtery Street.
Local ordinance draws substantial crowd at Mayor and Commission meeting
Last Tuesday, there was a lot of buzz at the regular Mayor and Commission meeting about an ordinance which would make it illegal to sleep on sidewalks. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz went to find out more about the controversy.
Local author releasing short story collection
Bradley Bazzle is an Athens author whose short story collection, In the Shadow of the Architect, is coming out on September 15th. He sat down with WUGA’s Havivah Saltz to talk about his upcoming publication and where he finds inspiration for his work.
