Athens News Matters: October 24th, 2026

This week on Athens News Matters, we discuss The Olivia Tremor Control’s final album. Plus, a new study on the use of AI in job interviews.

The mental effects of using AI for job interviews

These days, more and more companies are using AI to screen job candidates. According to a new study from the University of Georgia, that has mental effects on both interviewers and interviewees. Study co-author and Assistant Professor Akshat sat down with WUGA’s Havivah Saltz to discuss his findings.

Olivia Tremor Control member Peter Erchick on the band’s final album

The Olivia Tremor Control is one the most iconic Athens bands of the 2000s. Following the tragic passing of two of the band’s members, they have now released one final posthumous album, entitled “The Same Place,” which came out on Friday, October 23rd. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with the band’s multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Peter Erchick to discuss the album. Here’s that conversation.

The man behind the Flowerland sign

For Athenians who regularly drive down Prince Avenue, the funny and occasionally risque messages on the marquee outside the Flowerland store have become iconic. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz went to the flower shop to meet Matt Turbeville, the mind behind the marquee.

Havivah Saltz has been with WUGA since 2023 as an on-air host and the producer for African Perspectives. She got her start in radio on WOBC FM at Oberlin College (class of ‘23), and she’s also worked as an on-air host on Athens' Power 100.1 and Magic 102.1. She is currently WUGA's Senior Content Producer. Outside of work, you can find Havivah making art, writing fiction, practicing Japanese, petting her very round cat, and watching concerning amounts of TV.
