Joro Spider

Joro spider season is back again. These black and yellow critters have been spinning their enormous golden webs stateside for a decade now. Many have been worried about how they would impact native species.

Joro Watch has started their 4th annual Joro Spider Spotting Contest meant to monitor and collect data on the spread of Joro Spiders.

“I’ve seen them on gas station pumps, street lamps – I’ve even seen some on the top of street lights in the middle of a busy intersection downtown."

Since taking up residence in the area a few years ago, Joro Spider have become as common as kudzu, and just about as invasive.
