The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission last night gave unanimous approval to a new mask mandate for Athens-Clarke County, making ACC the third major municipality in the state to enact such a mandate in the face of skyrocketing COVID-19 cases.

ACC budget vote postponed for two weeks

The Athens-Clarke County Commission will take another two weeks to evaluate Mayor Kelly Girtz's proposed budget. Instead of voting on the measure at their June 1st regular meeting, as previously scheduled, the Commission will take a final vote at a June 15th special session.

Girtz's budget proposes some $148 million in General Fund spending. The overall budget is $271.5 million, about $5 million more than last year.
