Dear Faculty and Staff,

Last week we informed you that the University of Georgia would begin Phase I of our gradual reopening plan on Monday, June 15. Today we are providing you with the "Return to Campus Guidelines for Faculty and Staff."

Embark Georgia

“Every child has the potential to achieve something great.”

That’s what Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T Georgia, had to say about the importance of encouraging youth who have experienced foster care or homelessness to pursue higher education.

AT&T contributed $25,000 to Embark Georgia to help increase college access to this demographic.

A Hartwell man is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a UGA student who was killed Wednesday on Timothy Road near the off ramp of the Athens loop.

Investigators say Edward Lee Stowers was heading northbound exiting the ramp to Timothy Road when he lost control and entered the southbound lanes of Timothy and struck a vehicle driven by 20 year old Drury Anderson Shierling of Leesburg Georgia.

The University of Georgia's first African-American graduate, Mary Frances Early, will be the namesake of one of the school's colleges, with the naming ceremony planned for February of 2020 as part of the celebration of Black History Month.

The Board of Regents gave its final approval to name the College of Education after Early, who graduated in 1962 with a master's degree in music education.

Following a successful multi-year plan to enhance the undergraduate experience at UGA, Provost S. Jack Hu has now launched a task force to enhance academic excellence at UGA with an initial focus on graduate studies and research.

The task force consists of 23 faculty members and university administrators who will begin meeting biweekly to come up with a list of focus areas followed by a list of strategies to be implemented and metrics to track their success.
