Athens activists plan to join a nationwide protest with over 3,000 participating demonstrations.
Local political activism group Indivisible GA10 is holding a protest Friday, May 1. This event will be one of thousands of similar protests in a national effort called May Day Strong.
The main demand of the planned rallies, walkouts and boycotts is for “a nation that puts workers over billionaires,” according to organizers. They want to achieve this with a national call for “no school, no work” and “no shopping.”
The Athens protest will begin at 4 p.m. on Prince Avenue, where participants will wave signs and drive back and forth in decorated cars.
Another rally, organized by the Athens Party for Socialism and Liberation, is planned for 3 p.m. at the Arch. Organizers call for University of Georgia students to join over 10 other Georgia schools in the May 1 walkout.
