TRANSIT:
- Athens transit has suspended bus service on both Friday and Saturday, January 10 - 11 due to hazardous conditions. They look forward to serving you again when it is safe to do so.
ROADS:
- Roads and bridges are becoming icy. Avoid Hills and bridges. First responders are responding to numerous accidents throughout the area. Unless it is a dire emergency, stay off the roadways and remain at home.
- ROAD BLOCKAGE on Epps Bridge Rd. due to multiple vehicles and a semi truck unable to make it up the hill.
- ACC Police Department has reported icy conditions on the following roads (not comprehensive):
- College Station Road/International Drive
- College Station Road/North Oconee Access Road
- Newton Bridge Road
- North Chase St / Nantahala Avenue
- Oconee Street/Williams Street - ice from N Thomas St to Williams St
- Old Hull Rd bridge over Loop 10
- S Lumpkin Street/Macon Highway
- Tallassee Road/Westchester Drive
- Timothy Road/US 441
- Whitehall Road/White Circle
SHELTER RESOURCES:
- Bigger Vision of Athens/Athens First United Methodist Church - overnight sheltering in partnership with Athens First United Methodist. Call 706-340-6062 or visit Bigger Vision at 95 North Avenue.
- “Drop In” warming sites at Bigger Vision of Athens and Advantage Behavioral Health Services - These are not sleeping locations, but will be equipped with heaters. Open Friday morning to Sunday morning. The tents at the sites can be found in the Advantage (240 North Ave) and Bigger Vision (985 North Avenue) parking lots
- ACCGov Emergency Shelter at Lay Park (297 Hoyt Street) - Open 24 hours from Friday, January 10 at 8:00 AM until Sunday, January 12 at 7:00 AM. The shelter will not allow pets, drugs, alcohol, or weapons. Those in need can arrive at any time and stay for one or multiple nights as needed depending on capacity, but will be asked to remain at the shelter once checked in until they check out. Cots may not be available for every individual depending on availability and capacity; those who can bring their own bedding are encouraged to do so.
