coe.uga.edu

The 3rd Annual Cause + Effect Progressive Film Festival is this Saturday at Cine. The 11 finalists will be screened at the event. Director Brandon Hannick says the two to 15-minute-long short films must focus on a political, environmental, economic or social justice issue in Georgia.

“This year’s extra special because we have a guest speaker, our first guest speaker, Christopher Everett, who is a great director from North Carolina who lived in Atlanta for a while and he directed the film “Wilmington on Fire,” Hannick said. “He’ll be giving a speech on the power of social media in film and then showing some clips from his amazing documentary film.

There festival is free to enter and there are cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $100 for third. Hannick says the festival focuses on how compelling the story is and now necessarily production values.
