Cine has launched a new crowdfunding campaign. The award-winning, historically renovated building housing the theatre is up for sale and the nonprofit Athens Film Arts Institute that supports and manages Cine wants to purchase the building.
AFAI has an exclusive right to purchase the build through mid-2018. After that time, the building will be up for sale on the open market.
The goal of this campaign is $100,000, which will secure a down payment on a mortgage. In April 2017, the institute began a three-year, $2.5 million capital campaign intended to cover the purchase and maintenance of the building, improvement of facilities, and expanded opportunities for program.
Cine is now looking to secure a $1.5 million mortgage loan.
